*Singers auditioning for a stipendiary position will be asked to prepare a piece ahead of time
singers are asked to prepare a 16-to-32-bar selection or maximum 2 minutes of music in any style that best showcases their abilities and interests. An accompanist will be provided. The audition includes a sight-reading level placement. For auditionees who display exceptional artistry but require further sight-singing support, there is possibility of acceptance into an Ember Singer Development cohort and being reconsidered for subsequent concert cycles.Please see below for other FAQ.

Auditions consist of a prepared solo (16-to-32-bars or maximum 2 minutes of music in any style), a sight-singing level placement, and an interview with the Artistic Director. An accompanist will be provided.

Successful auditionees almost always have previous choral experience. Solid music-reading ability and a clear voice with good intonation are necessary. For auditionees who display exceptional artistry but require further sight-singing support, there is possibility of acceptance into an Ember Singer Development cohort and being re-considered for subsequent concert cycles.

Weekly rehearsals (on Tuesday evenings, 7PM-9:30PM) are supplemented by one additional rehearsal evening in two of the weeks approaching each concert. Singers are expected to be at all rehearsals. If more than two rehearsals are missed in a concert cycle, it is unlikely for a singer to be able to participate in that concert.

All solos are assigned to ensemble members. Indicate your desire for solo work in your preliminary audition conversation. You may be asked to prepare specific music for solo auditions.
